How to Keep Your Children Safe on Halloween

Kids Trick-or-TreatingOn Halloween, the scary things are supposed to confine themselves to bats, witches and all manner of vile and disgusting beasts.  No parent wants to confront the possibility that something worse than a stomach ache from eating too much candy may befall their child on Halloween.  Below is a list of tips on how to keep your children safe on Halloween.

1.  Do not allow your children to go Trick-or-Treating alone.  Either go with them, make arrangements with a friend’s parents, or, if your child is old enough, have her go out with a group of friends.

2.  Make sure that you child knows never to get into a stranger’s house or car.  They should stay with people they know, preferably in well-lit and well-populated areas.

3.  Inspect your child’s candy before allowing her to eat it.

4.  Throw away anything that is not in its original packaging, or that is homemade (the only exceptions here are homemade treats from friends).
